Shooting in the Dark – wedding photography in December

December is by far our busiest month.  We were photographing half of the month, and 3 of the events were in one day.  One of which was this fabulous wedding at San Ysidro Ranch with Mindy Weiss.

Elana’s bridal prep started 3pm, which meant that everything occurred after the Sun had gone to sleep.  As a wedding photographer, your only job is to make great photographs no matter what the conditions you are thrown into.  There are no excuses because the day can never be repeated.

Below is a photo of our fabulous bride Elena walking to her late night after-party led by bridal attendant’s cell phone light.  Only other source light were distant break lights from the cars that were leaving the venue.  Unexpected, precious moment.

What’s the secret?  Great lens (50mm 1.2L) and impeccable timing and instinct.
