Photographing on a Helipad with a Bride and Groom

To photograph on the Helipad at a venue, the hotel staff usually have to escort the Bride, Groom, and the Photographer to the Helipad to ensure everything goes safely and smoothly.  Hailey and Kyle’s wedding was at Four Seasons Los Angeles at Beverly Hills, so we took a few moments away to photograph on the helipad.  Timing wasn’t ideal since Sunset was another 30 minutes away, but this was the only opportunity as we had to keep to a strict wedding day schedule.

Here are couple of examples when shooting against the sun.  You can under-expose the image for a silhouette, or over-expose for a bright airy look against the backdrop.  It’s critical to shoot to RAW at times like this (we shoot 100% RAW) in order to retain as much highlight detail when editing the images in the post.  Two very different images shot within seconds of each other.
